Description
Delicious homemade pretzels that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) instant yeast
- 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F/43°C)
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp kosher salt
- ⅓ cup baking soda
- 4 tbsp melted butter
- Coarse sea salt (for topping)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, brown sugar, and yeast. Let sit until foamy (about 5 minutes).
- Stir in flour and kosher salt until a rough dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled (about 1 hour).
- Punch down the dough and divide it into equal pieces. Roll each piece into long ropes and twist them into classic pretzel shapes.
- Boil water with baking soda in a pot. Briefly dip each pretzel before placing them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Brush melted butter over each pretzel and sprinkle with coarse salt. Bake at 450°F (232°C) for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
- For best results, ensure the water is warm but not hot to activate the yeast properly.
- Feel free to experiment with additional toppings like sesame seeds or garlic salt.
