- 1 medium head green cabbage, chopped
- 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup chicken or vegetable broth
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
Instructions
- Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat.
- Add chopped onion and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add chopped cabbage and stir well to coat with the aromatics.
- Let the cabbage cook down for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth.
- Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
- Cover the skillet and let simmer for 15–20 minutes, until cabbage is tender.
- Uncover, add apple cider vinegar, and stir well.
- Simmer uncovered for 2–3 more minutes to reduce excess liquid.
- Taste and adjust seasonings as needed before serving.
