Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Pink gel food coloring
  • Valentine sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Cream the Base: Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla and mix until smooth.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually mix into wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  3. Divide and Color Dough: Divide dough in half. Leave one plain and tint the other pink.
  4. Shape the Cookies: Roll plain dough into balls and flatten slightly. Roll pink dough into thin ropes and form heart borders.
  5. Decorate: Gently press sprinkles into the center of each cookie.
  6. Chill: Refrigerate shaped cookies for 30 minutes.
  7. Bake: Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10–12 minutes until edges are set.
  8. Cool: Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack.
