This Instant Pot Flank Steak is a quick and delicious way to enjoy tender beef with a flavorful sauce.

- 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 4 green onions, sliced (plus extra for garnish)
- 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Pat flank steak dry with paper towels, then slice thinly against the grain. Toss the strips in a large bowl with cornstarch until evenly coated. Set aside.
- Set the Instant Pot to ‘Sauté’ mode. Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Once hot, add minced garlic and grated ginger; stir for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add half of the steak strips and brown for 1-2 minutes. Remove and repeat with the second tablespoon of oil and the remaining beef. Return all beef to the pot.
- Pour soy sauce, brown sugar, water, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using) into the pot. Stir well, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom.
- Secure the lid, set to ‘Sealing,’ and cook on Manual/High Pressure for 8 minutes. Once done, allow a natural pressure release for 10 minutes, then carefully quick-release any remaining pressure.
- Stir in toasted sesame oil and sliced green onions. Let the sauce thicken for 5 minutes (use ‘Sauté’ if needed for a thicker sauce). Serve hot, garnished with more green onions and sesame seeds.
Notes
- For extra flavor, marinate the flank steak in soy sauce, garlic, and ginger for a few hours before cooking.
- This dish pairs well with steamed rice or noodles.
