Description

This Instant Pot Flank Steak is a quick and delicious way to enjoy tender beef with a flavorful sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 4 green onions, sliced (plus extra for garnish)
  • 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Pat flank steak dry with paper towels, then slice thinly against the grain. Toss the strips in a large bowl with cornstarch until evenly coated. Set aside.
  2. Set the Instant Pot to ‘Sauté’ mode. Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Once hot, add minced garlic and grated ginger; stir for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add half of the steak strips and brown for 1-2 minutes. Remove and repeat with the second tablespoon of oil and the remaining beef. Return all beef to the pot.
  4. Pour soy sauce, brown sugar, water, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using) into the pot. Stir well, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom.
  5. Secure the lid, set to ‘Sealing,’ and cook on Manual/High Pressure for 8 minutes. Once done, allow a natural pressure release for 10 minutes, then carefully quick-release any remaining pressure.
  6. Stir in toasted sesame oil and sliced green onions. Let the sauce thicken for 5 minutes (use ‘Sauté’ if needed for a thicker sauce). Serve hot, garnished with more green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, marinate the flank steak in soy sauce, garlic, and ginger for a few hours before cooking.
  • This dish pairs well with steamed rice or noodles.
